Everyday millions of liters of soap are poured into the ocean, that, at the best, are declared 92% organic…but how about the 8%? Does anybody care about the remaining 8%?
These are the questions that MCF started from in the creation of her latest work.

On the occasion of the Italian Contemporary Day, the artist realized an artwork which will be placed in the patio of the Los Angeles Italian Institute of Culture from October 13 to 18. The artwork wants to arise the question about ocean pollution caused by detergents that are not completely biodegradable.

Maria Cristina Finucci recreated the water surface where the detergent is enhanced by a chemical reagent that gives a fluorescent effect. Being in a highly artificial environment is what results in daylight, while, in the absence of light, the artwork coveys a large writing with the four letters HELP – Finucci’s iconic code- glowing in the dark. The choice to use phosphorescent pigments stems from the desire to highlight the “invisible” issue of the ocean pollution caused by detergents. Indeed, unlike the detergent dissolved in the oceans, which is invisible to the human eye, “How about the 8%” finally highlights this problematic thanks to the pigmentation that acts as a reagent.
